The Mcgruder

Who are the main characters in The Treasure of Bessledorf Hill by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor?
We know that Bernie is a McGruder. But who you said the others are? We are having trouble getting to the "main" and … Weasel and Georgene or some of the family of Bernie. Help! My child needs this book for your report. Thanks!
Could there really be a pirate treasure buried so far from the sea in Middleburg, Indiana? Felicity Jones thinks so. Lights strange floating on the hillside, a stranger who claims to be the great-great-great-great-great-great-grandson of Peg Leg Pirate, and a plethora of coded messages provide the impetus for a new adventure for the band from the Hotel Bessledorf. Although one sixth of the series, this book is unique. Readers are performed over Bernie, Georgene weasel Official Feeney, and everyone in the hotel, are scrambling to be the first to find the treasure. Bernie Even pets are victims of the craze for pirates; cats used tissues in the neck, the dog wears an eye patch, and salt water, the bird, use a black three-cornered hat with a skull and crossbones on the front. The melodramatic style and dialogue are suitable for this adventure today. While many characters come and go, do not develop in depth, which is not necessarily negative, since the series is more adventure oriented emotional connections with players. With plenty of slap-stick humor, the characters and the plot predictable, so as a satisfactory conclusion, this title may be necessary to make the hook reluctant readers.? Glass: Einstein on the Beach (1993 Recording) $27.88 Although Einstein on the Beach is by definition an opera, Philip Glass’s most famous work also transcends traditional music categories. Glass avoided all vestiges of plot in the piece and dug deep into his quiver of repetitions to create an artfully unnerving five hours of brilliance. The instrumental ensemble never exceeds five members, playing electric keyboards, saxophones, flutes, and a s… |

The Boondocks $12.3 The Boondocks took the syndication world by storm. The notoriety landed Boondocks creator Aaron McGruder in publications ranging from Time magazine to People magazine which named him one of the "25 Most Intriguing People of `99. Centered around the experiences of two young African-American boys, Huey and Riley, who move from inner-city Chicago to the suburbs (or the "boondocks" to them), the strip fuses hip-hop sensibilities with Japanese anime-style drawings and a candid discussion of race. Funny yet revealing, the combination of superb art and envelope-pushing content provides one of the most unique strips ever. |

The Souls of Mixed Folk (Hardcover) $89.39 The Souls of Mixed Folk examines representations of mixed race in literature and the arts that redefine new millennial aesthetics and politics. Focusing on black-white mixes, Elam analyzes expressive works—novels, drama, graphic narrative, late-night television, art installations—as artistic rejoinders to the perception that post-Civil Rights politics are bereft and post-Black art is apolitical. Reorienting attention to the cultural invention of mixed race from the social sciences to the humanities, Elam considers the creative work of Lezley Saar, Aaron McGruder, Nate Creekmore, Danzy Senna, Colson Whitehead, Emily Raboteau, Carl Hancock Rux, and Dave Chappelle. All these writers and artists address mixed race as both an aesthetic challenge and a social concern, and together, they gesture toward a poetics of social justice for the "mulatto millennium."The Souls of Mixed Folk seeks a middle way between competing hagiographic and apocalyptic impulses in mixed race scholarship, between those who proselytize mixed race as the great hallelujah to the "race problem" and those who can only hear the alarmist bells of civil rights destruction. Both approaches can obscure some of the more critically astute engagements with new millennial iterations of mixed race by the multi-generic cohort of contemporary writers, artists, and performers discussed in this book. The Souls of Mixed Folk offers case studies of their creative work in an effort to expand the contemporary idiom about mixed race in the so-called post-race moment, asking how might new millennial expressive forms suggest an aesthetics of mixed race? And how might such an aesthetics productively reimagine the relations between race, art, and social equity in the twenty-first century? |
